Luxury wilderness resort in the Western Colorado town of Gateway
The Gateway Canyons Resort can be found in a part of Western Colorado that remains virtually untouched by the human hand. Surrounded by magnificent red rock cliff faces and outcrops, whilst overlooking the picturesque Dolores River, the resort is the perfect location for those looking to enjoy the solitude of the Great Outdoors, but still wish to enjoy a little comfort and luxury.
Accommodation at the resort can be found in two properties. Firstly, the Dolores River Inn features 16 well-appointed guestrooms. These rooms feature a bedroom, lounge area, and bathroom. Facilities inside include two High Definition televisions (one in the bedroom, one in the living room), mini refrigerator, coffeemaker, microwave oven, and spa-quality toiletries. Suites within the Inn also feature a deep hot tub in the bedroom as well as a kitchen.
The second accommodation property is the Kiva Lodge, which features 38 luxury resort rooms. These terrifically styles rooms feature many of the amenities on offer in the inn as well as a wet bar and desk. Importantly, these are more spacious, and offer a number of bed quantities. Some of the more advanced of these include private patios with hot tub, gas fires, and a number of other lavish add-ons.
In terms of dining, guests at the Gateway Canyons Resort have a number of options. The Entrada Restaurant serves regional gourmet dishes. The Paradox Grille focuses on Western and Southwestern dishes as well as a number of continental options. The Kiva Caf serves a lighter menu and can be enjoyed poolside. The Outpost General Store offers pre-prepared meals or the ingredients to make your own, for those that wish to self-cater.
Amidst the beautifully landscaped hotel grounds, guests will find a large resort style swimming pool that is ideal for exercise and pleasure. The pool is surrounded by sun-loungers which are ideal for catching those Colorado summer rays. The Club House is a fine location to rest and relax, either inside or in its courtyard.
Those looking to maintain and exercise regime can access the well-equipped fitness room, whilst those looking to completely get away from the hectic world will enjoy the many spa services on offer. Health and wellness is the number one priority, and guests are all but guaranteed to lose any of those awkward stress knots or that tense feeling.
Somewhat surprisingly, the resort is also home to the Gateway Auto Museum, which houses a number of classic cars. The resort founder, John Hendricks, who also founded the Discovery Channel, decided to share his love of classic cars with guests at his hotel.
Perhaps the hotels greatest draw is its Adventure Center. With the land around Gateway, CO practically untouched, many enjoy the rural and natural backdrop when partaking in some traditional and not so traditional activities. Walking, horse riding, hiking, and climbing are all popular pursuits amongst the Rockies, whilst a spot of fly fishing along the Dolores can be peaceful and therapeutic.
Those staying at the Gateway Canyons Resort that prefer a little adrenaline pumping fun may want to try out river rafting or kayaking. Alternatively, take an inflated inner tube and relax on the creek for an afternoon.
